Bluegrass music has its roots in the traditional music of the Appalachian mountain region. One of the earliest forms of bluegrass was fiddle music, which was typically played by duos. These duos would often feature a fiddle player and a mandolin player, along with an acoustic guitar. The fiddle player would lead the melody, while the mandolin and guitar provided accompaniment. Over time, these fiddle tunes began to be embellished with more complex harmonies and countermelodies.
