About the event
Trio Sambossa plays “Música Popular Brasileira” — Brazilian Popular Music, featuring local musicians, David Sackman on 7-string guitar, Francine Joy on pandeiro and percussion, and Gordon Giedt on woodwinds. On the third Sunday of each month Trio Sambossa hosts a Roda de Choro (jam session) at Murphy's Irish Pub from noon to 2 pm and invites musicians to share this happy music. Sheet music is available.
Choro became the music of 1870’s Rio de Janeiro high society as did Ragtime in the United States, Tango in Argentina, and Habanera in Cuba. Mercurial and brilliant, Choro is characterized by beautiful melody, sophisticated counterpoint, and syncopated Afro-Brazilian rhythm.
