Celebrating Black-Owned, Woman-Owned, Veteran-Owned Brewery "Crowns & Hops"

It’s Black History Month and we are celebrating Crowns & Hops, a black-owned, woman-owned, veteran-owned brewery. Crowns & Hops was founded by Beny Ashburn & Teo Hunter and is now one of the most popular breweries in Los Angeles. As a black-owned, woman-owned business right here in historic downtown Murphys, the Murphys Irish Pub is proud to feature Crowns & Hops beer.

Hop Culture’s Best New Brewery of 2020

Crowns & Hops has quickly become one of the most popular breweries in Los Angeles, creating a space where diverse cultures can celebrate their heritage while enjoying quality craft beer. Founded by Teo Hunter and Rob Melendez in 2016, they have earned prestigious awards for their brews such as the “BPLB Hazy IPA” and Allagash collaboration “Cur-8”. As we celebrate Black History Month, it is important to recognize the achievements of black-owned businesses such as Crowns & Hops and Murphys Irish Pub. These businesses have established themselves as independent craft brewers and offer unique experiences for customers that cannot be found anywhere else. Let’s continue to support and celebrate the success of Crowns & Hops and other black-owned businesses!

Blend Of Pilsner And Barrel-Aged Tripel

Cur-8 blends the crisp flavor of Crowns & Hops 8 Trill Pils with notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak from Allagash Curieux. Born from a mutual desire for progress, this collaboration between Crowns & Hops and Allagash is a celebration of shared passion for brewing, innovation, and creating more opportunities for the Black community in and around the craft beer industry.

Proceeds from the sale of this beer go to the 8 Trill Initiative, a development fund with the goal of achieving racial equity in craft beer.

"BPLB" HAZY IPA This beer offers the tropical and stone fruit notes you’ve come to expect with a Hazy IPA. The beer is designed to have an incredible mouth feel and aroma punctuating the hops and process culminating in a bouquet of tropical fruit forward flavors that make you say. This beer represents the movement Crowns started 7 years ago, #BlackPeopleLoveBeer #BrownPeopleLoveBeer APPEARANCE: Hazy, not opaque AROMA: Tropical, stone fruit, sweet candy-Like aroma, cherry and mango FLAVOR: Stone fruit, pineapple and citrus

We hope you take time this month to celebrate these amazing businesses that have made an impact in our community; Murphys Irish Pub and Crowns & Hops! If you haven't tried them yet then make sure to stop by soon for delicious food, drinks (like BPLB Hazy IPA or Allagash collaboration “Cur-8”) and good vibes! Enjoy your visit!
